Dr. Ken Hollis

BayChoice Surgeons was founded by Dr. Ken Hollis in 1993. At that time, medicine was undergoing changes due to intervention on the part of both government and big business. Government wanted to regulate the medical profession to minimize the cost of public medical care while big business wanted to regulate the medical profession to maximize profits. And these two competing interests didn't always move in the direction of each patient's best interests.

"But I'm a perfectionist," says Dr. Hollis. "I wanted to create a practice which would make premier quality surgery available to the entire bay area. I wanted to create a practice that would offer each patient the most thorough and compassionate treatment possible. And the bottom line has always been that my staff and I take the time. I realize that any form of surgery is a very serious undertaking, so we want each patient to be fully informed about and comfortable with any surgical procedure and the team of professionals that will participate in their care. We make sure that we are always available to handle each patient's needs - before, during, and after surgery."

And that philosophy is obviously working. A substantial number of BayChoice Surgeons' patients come from patient referrals. "We originally started with one surgeon and one employee. However, those referrals have helped BayChoice grow from the early days so that we now have two surgeons and a support staff of seven. That's perhaps the greatest compliment a surgeon could receive," says Dr. Hollis with a smile.

Continuing toward that goal, BayChoice Surgeons offers a broad array of non-surgical and surgical services for the treatment of conditions that result from either illness or accident. The surgical services available include abdominal surgery, appendectomy, hernia repair, skin and soft tissue tumors, gallbladder, stomach, intestinal, breast, and rectal surgery, as well as many others. In particular, the surgeons at BayChoice are experts in advanced endoscopic surgery.  Many procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis. And Dr. Hollis cooperates with area hospitals and outpatient centers to offer each patient state-of-the-art facilities for the more involved treatments.

In the future, BayChoice Surgeons will continue to offer medical care second to none. "It was our goal when we started and it will continue to be our goal in the future."
