Pre-Operative Instructions

Before you have surgery:
1)

We will record your medical history and a physical exam no more than 7 days before your surgery.
.

2)

Routine tests before surgery may include blood and urine testing. In some cases, a chest X-ray and an EKG may be required. Our office will prepare written orders for your lab work. You must take these orders from our office and have your tests completed 3 - 7 days before your surgery. Please have insurance information available for the hospital when you go for your tests.
.

3)

It is possible that you may have a consultation with an anesthesiologist when you are at the hospital for testing. Please bring with you a complete list of all medications and dosages that you are taking. This includes prescriptions and over the counter items such as aspirin, cold remedies, laxatives, etc..
.

4)

Our office is happy to review your insurance coverage for the surgery and will give you an estimate of the charges from our office.  Information about the charges from the hospital, anesthesiologist, pathologist or radiologist, must be obtained directly from those providers.
.

5)

Please tell us if you have taken aspirin within the past two weeks. Aspirin or aspirin-like products (Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Nuprin, etc.) should not be taken before your surgery. Should you need a pain reliever, consider Tylenol or another acetaminophen product.
.

6)

On the day of your surgery, be sure to arrange for someone to drive you to and from the hospital. Please make arrangements for children to be left at home and properly attended.
